Sleep Apnea
Sleep Apnea by definition is the inability to obtain sustained sleep. Sleep is interrupted by the airway being constricted. The mouth breather is then awakened since air flow cannot exchange smoothly. Affected individuals are constantly tired and cannot concentrate properly. Sleep Apnea in its worst form can be life threatening. Various treatments exist to attempt to open the airway from surgical procedures which can be very painful to devices which are worn to reposition the jaws during sleep. Some such devices are called snore guards and can be fabricated in the dental office.
